Analysis on Formation Mechanism of Sheen Phenomena in Wool-containing Fabrics

Yiren Chen, Ziwei Wu and Xinwang Cao

In order to solve the sheen phenomena of wool-containing fabrics in wear, and increase their value, the fabric structure and chemical composition in sheen and non-sheen areas of wool-containing fabric were analyzed and discussed. It was concluded that the forming mechanism of sheen phenomena was caused by wool ramentums damaged under mechanical exotic actions and the fabrics becoming smooth, and the reflection getting stronger. Meanwhile, there were grease and lipoid in sheen area which were attached to the fiber surface and the fibers were adhesive together, the hairiness lies down. All of these aggravate the sheen phenomena. The methods of elimination of sheen phenomena were soil removal finishing, degreasing and fluffing finishing.
